About the Services

Prenatal Visits

You will receive two prenatal visits with me. I can come to your house or we can meet somewhere. The first will be a 60 minute visit around 25-28 weeks to fill out an intake form, get to know you and your pregnancy/ medical history. We will start your customize birth plan and go over some resources to read to prepare for labor. The second meeting will be a 90 minute appointment around 30-32 weeks where we will go into detail and finalize your birth plan. I will also answer any questions that have come up this far in the pregnancy and explain how labor and delivery will work. It is also important that I meet your spouse at one of these visits as well.

Postpartum Visits

You will receive two postpartum visits with me. A 60 minute visit in the hospital, and a 90 minute visit at home, or you may have two at home visits. The first visit we will go over your birth, address any concerns you have after having baby. I can assist with breastfeeding if you choose to breastfeed and have questions. I will support you with baby care so you can shower or take a nap to recharge, or I can occupy other children so you can spend time to bond with your new baby alone. I will also bring you a home cooked meal to your visit.

OBGYN/ Midwife Visit

If you wish I will attend a prenatal visit at your doctor office with you to meet your doctor and to answer any questions you or she may have about me being there. I can also give you a second opinion within the realms of my training on anything that she has suggested you do during your pregnancy and labor and delivery.

Homebirth

I am available and would love to attend your home birth. There is more one on one focus on you when you choose to home birth. I will be there from the moment you ask me to come and I can help you decide when to call your midwife or when is a good time to transfer to the hospital or birthing center of your choice.

Travel Fee

I travel up to 45 miles from my residence without an extra charge, depending on the weather. If you are further than 45 miles and are due in the winter months we can discuss a plan of action for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • There is no "Need", it's more a personal choice. Is it possible to give birth without a doula? Absolutely. A person may require the services of a doula owing to anxiety, a lack of other support, a desire, or other factors. Yes. You have complete control over your birth.

  • That is subject to your individual insurance provider, so I cannot give you a definitive answer. I heard of people covered by their HSA/FSA, but the best way to get an answer is to get in touch with your insurance company.

  • When you use Before Birth Begins, you can be assured that you will get the finest service possible without being judged. We believe in giving objective, evidence-based assistance. We support all types of births, from vaginal to Cesarean and all in between, whether you want to give birth in a hospital or with a Midwife.

  • The earlier you start, the better. The beginning of your third trimester is usually a good time to book your doula. We frequently advise starting your search in your second trimester, talking to and interviewing a few doulas to see who is the greatest fit for you. You deserve someone with whom you can easily connect and who matches your personality and needs.

  • Many people believe that a doula replaces the spouse, but we actually help them as well. We are firm believers that our responsibility as your doula is to magnify support for you and your spouse. We've dealt with a variety of birthing partners, and one thing they all have in common is that your spouse understands you better than anybody else. Even if they are unsure how to assist you throughout labor and delivery, they are aware of your anxieties, preferences, and aspirations. We support your spouse by encouraging them, providing direction and recommendations as required, reminding them to remain hydrated and take breaks, and more

What does it look like to work with me?

Kind Words

“During labor, her counter pressure techniques were a huge relief, as well as her calm, collected, yet cheerful energy. After birth, I was in awe at her devotion to see us well, and she brought us a delicious homemade meal. It meant the world to us!
