Meet the Doula

Melody Wharram - certified birth doula

I have a love for birth and a passion in my heart to help as many women as possible also love their birth. After having my first naturally, I fell in love with giving birth and decided to become a doula when I was pregnant with my second and planning an unassisted home birth.

My goal is to make sure you are fully informed and supported to overcome your fears around giving birth.

I am a wife to my high school sweetheart and a mom of two littles who I stay home with full time. My first birth was natural in a hospital and really fueled my love for giving birth. Which lead me to do all the reading and research to birth my second at home unassisted with my doula and husband. I understand the struggles of getting pregnant and the fears of carrying to term as we had to go through three rounds of IVF to conceive our first. When the time came I felt confident with my birth plan and was determined to have a birth as natural as possible in the hospital. I learned all I could and successfully birthed my first with no medication. A year and a half later we found out, by the grace of God we were pregnant naturally with our second. This time I knew I was not going to the hospital and I was going to do this all by myself. I read everything I could to prepare and in the midst of all the research I did I learned even more about birth, and the choices we have to make for ourselves and our babies during pregnancy, and labor and delivery. I realized I knew very little even with all I learned while I was pregnant with my first. It then became my mission to make sure all women who planned to have children were as informed as much as possible during their pregnancy and labor. I knew that I was meant to become a doula and make that happen, and also to help women to love giving birth without all the fears that surround it.

I am a certified birth doula through the Madriella Doula Network. I am a certified placenta specialist, childbirth educator, loss and bereavement doula, breastfeeding educator, and postpartum doula. I also have training in massage for laboring women, trauma informed care, understanding developmental disabilities, and am a young parent support specialist. I was recently trained in using a TENS unit to help with pain during labor.

I have been advocating for informed care and support in mothers decisions around their body and their baby for over a year now in the birth community. I will continue to make this my mission along with supporting women to have the most empowered birth until there are no fears around doing what our bodies were created to do.

My goal is to make sure you are fully informed and supported to overcome your fears around giving birth.”
